Hey everyone. I'm replacing the rear drum brake shoes on my 1981 KZ550 LTD. I used to Clymer manual to take the wheel off. I'm about to put the wheel back in place and I know the Clymer torque specs are notorious for being wrong. Does anyone know Kawasaki's FSM rear axle nut torque spec? Thanks

Just tighten until tight, not cranking it on and use a good new cotter key and you'll be fine.

Whatever the clymer spec is probably will be fine the castle nut cotter key combo will keep it together

My 750 is about 100 foot-pounds, but I did as stated above for many decades..... just cranked as hard as I could turn it.

To install the hitch pin clip, I have to crank the nut pretty tight to line up the holes.

Yea, just tighten til tight and find the next slot and tighten more to line it up. Regardless of urban myth ect, over tightening the nut will not cause the bearings to fail, and likewise slightly under tightened won't hurt either as you have the castle nut and cotter pin.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
