KZ1000 Throttle Cables? was created by Chefzilla
Hello kz riders, I have two (82 CSR 750). I've been looking for a reason to join, and now I have one. I have a 1977 KZ1000A. It's been a two year project, coming to an end as I'll be picking up the painted pieces and assembling shortly. However I have a very stiff throttle and have figured out that the throttle cables are two long and routed incorrectly. After searching the web, calling Kaw and talking with Z1 enterprises I still have no definite answer on how to route the cables. Z1 assures me that the cables I have are correct.
If you have a KZ1000A can you tell me how your throttle cables are routed. I do know now that the bike came from the factory crated with the cables already properly routed and attached. It looks like through the top cable ring, then past the right fork tube and under the tank, then down to the carbs? I do some phots of a KZ 650 from the web but want to be sure.
Let me know, pics would be great! Thanks, Jeff

Sounds to me like you have it right. When was the last time that the cables were lubed?

The bike was chopped and pretty much a wreck when I purchased it. It had monkey bars on it, so the cable goes through the fork, then crosses down outside of the left front fork, then over the head to the carbs. It is way too long, and un-marked leading me to believe it is an AM junk cable. I have new ones from Z1. I do have a Rox 2" riser on the bars but it may not matter a whole lot if I route under the tank.
Do your cables run on the right frame bar under the tank rubber? And are they zip tied down.
Thanks,
CZ
