KZ1000 frame/motor identification was created by Dphillips030
Hello all, long story short. I bought my first kawasaki. Title says it's a 77 kz1000. Title matches the engine number but not the frame #. Did these bikes come with matching numbers or were they identified through the motor vin #? Any info would be great as I've never seen a title motor before. Below are the numbers
Motor: KZT00AE018525
Frame: KZT00A-012230
Motor: KZT00AE018525
Frame: KZT00A-012230

The info found
here
says that it is a '77 Kz1000A1. I have a '78 Kz1000A2 and I'm pretty sure my title matches my frame and not the engine number. But I think it can vary state to state. I'm sure someone will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

Nope, you are correct Doug...on all counts Dphillips030: most places use the frame VIN as the registering ID...but it can vary.

Titles all came with Z1F- for Z1 & KZ900 frames. Something was altered over the years! If your engine has the "E" KZTOOAE! Don't the E designate a Mark II engine? dealer? insurance? swapped out, dragbike parts? Stolen? 1/4" industrial stamps are easy to do
Who knows what Kawasaki did in the late 70's? They had silver 78 Z1R's that they could not sell for 4 years still sitting did not make a 79 but re-did the 80 Z1R D3, mixed in the Mark II's. Everyone has a different story!
I had 3 Z1 titles and 4 KZ900 titles in the safe at one time 25 years ago. All trashed out, crashed, beat up dismantled drag bikes! Taken out of the system! I used to sell titles for $100 bucks
