zrx to kz 1000 front end converison

thought i would share some pics of how the gauge mounts turned out.
the zrx had an ignition loop and gauge mounts that had to be machined away first to slick up the upper triple.
i didn't get pics of the operation but it was pretty straight forward port-a-band and mill work  .
here is a shot of a factory kz gauge mounting layout.
i machined up some weldment fittings (from a steering stem out of a zx636 ) to match the internal hourglass shape of the factory mounts.
i found my data points and machined a couple notches in the upper triple to locate the fittings for welding.
and it was so stinkin (99 with a 110 heat index) hot i forgot to get any pictures of my gorilla aluminum welding before i machined it all off  .
i milled the welds off the top, then used my head porting tools to do the fillets down the sides of the weldments.
then cleaned it up with a flapper wheel and the belt sander.
thanks for lookin,
leon

texaskz,
that would be a good question for the guy who is building the bike.
i'm just the fabricator
being as the zrx drives off the front wheel like a kz i'm going out on a limb and saying motion pro can prolly make a cable to work.

Unless he is planning to use an electric speedo from an LTD, I can see how that could work. Do you know if the ZRX uses the same reduction ratio as the KZ ?

I have read somewhere defore that the reduction ratios for most (keyword most) Japanese bikes are the same. The topic was brought up by me when someone was wanting to use a small simplified speedo on a KZ650. I believe it was one of the local FB forums I belong to.

Very nice setup as always Leon. I ended up making those rubber isolated brackets that used the handle bar bolts that flushed the gauge cluster with the top triple. This looks stock though.
