Gas tank bolt? was created by theleonard
After riding my new-to-me KZ400 home tonight, I learned that nothing but gravity and the front of the seat were holding the tank on. Does anyone know the part number for that bolt, or a suggestion for a good replacement? I had no luck searching the forum, and the resolution on the old parts catalogs online is too low to zoom in on the part number.

is that what you have? 79 400B use the slider to enlarge the pic and mouse the image to where you want it. Looks like a push fit onto a rubber damper like the 550 and 1100, can't see any bolt.

There's also a washer, a collar & a couple of dampers --- in case anything else is missing.

If it is just a bolt, go to a hardware store. Ace Hardware will have one.

It should have a rubber dampener.

Perfect. Your info helped me find a replacement quickly. I toyed with the idea of just grabbing a replacement from the hardware store, but I'm not as good at sizing them as I'd like to be.
