95 KZP Aftermarket wheel? was created by mikejespinosa
Hey guys, need some expertise. I have a 95 KZP that i am working on. Making a custom. I would like to swap out my mags for something cooler looking. Will aftermarket wheels fit this bike? I dont know what to take in consideration outside of the wheel size. I am very familiar with cars and know to look for rim size plus bolt pattern but, dumb on the Moto wheel. any help is greatly appreciated.

You pretty much will need to find wheels made specifically for your bike. Keep in mind that unlike a car, the bike's brake rotors are fastened to the wheels and those rotors need to align with the brake calipers. So if the wheel hubs are different widths than stock it may be impossible or at least expensive/difficult to get everything aligned. If the hubs are not set up to work with the stock rotors you may need to get different rotors and possibly different calipers. Of course the axle diameter also needs to be dealt with, but sometimes bearings can be found to solve that issue. Ed

Your bike is kind of an anachronism --- it's virtually the same as the 82 KZ1000-P1, as are all of the police bikes from 1982-2005. So if you stumble across any P models that have a different front wheel, that should be helpful.

Front fork swap. Instead of the wheel, a common thing to do is to swap the entire front end. Using the All-Balls-Racing site you can figure out which models would be a good match --- either find steering stem tapered bearings that are the same, or bearings with the ID of the donor bike & OD of the police bike. Then the donor triple tree would need to be machined to fit your frame's steering head. I think the machine work typically involves modifying the lower triple --- cutting it to length, then re-machining the end (probably pretty easy for any good machine shop).

Sounds like the path of least resistance is to keep the wheels. I didnt even think about the brake piece. No i know why not too many of these done as a custom.

Thanks for the help.
