gas tank divot broke off

Only alternative I see is removing tank and re-welding piece (time consuming job for an apartment dweller on a fixed, low income) or find a used tank but the odds of having the same paint job are slim. Might go that route anyway.
Right now the seat closes down over the bottom of the tank, as designed, and that helps but potholes and other road bumps make it work its way down.
Heres the broken divot piece:

Clean both mating surfaces up real well before attempting to re-attach.

Reading the original post, it seems to me he was asking if there were any alternatives to welding.
People who dismess JB Weld have usually either never used it before or didn't prep their surfaces properly. That stuff works, and it's the cheapest fix that I can see.

You assume that the OP doesn't already have a piece of sandpaper (who doesn't?) and you conveniently cut your welding estimate in half. I wouldn't prep and weld on a gas tank for $20.00.
Just my $0.02

floivanus wrote: Drain gas, purge tank, wash with rubbing alcohol may be enough, take it to a welder (that obviously knows it is a gas tank) and get it welded ($20 or so) that's not too far from getting JB weld at $5 and wasting the money on that thought.
