I agree that the shop owes you a chain. If push comes to shove though I'd get a rivet type chain joining link and add the links back in. As long as the link is installed properly you should be fine.

Mine takes a 92 link chain. The only one I could get without waiting was a 94. I bought it and took out two links myself. It doesn't help our bikes are considered obsolete.

Well after long debate with the manager they are going to rivet the links back in to look like factory and they garentee in writing it will not fail. Haha in this small farm town I bet 90% of the population doesn't even use the Internet much less know what yelp is lol.
