trail change on kz/spectre was created by Forbes
i have exhausted searching only to find not a real answer. i was told i can decrease trail on my 81 kz750e by changing out the triple trees only from an 83 spectre.
his explanation was the stems are the same and due to the leading axle front fork of the spectre the offset of the front forks are not as far forward as the 81kz750e. i understand how this could be true. but i have not found one source of this information,
anybody have a resource i can look at?
im trying to determine
if the stem is interchangable (will kz stem fit spectre triple tree)
what the offset is of the forks from the stem (will it change trail)
what the spread is between the forks (so i can run kz front wheel)

thanks for any info you can direct me to.

If you remove the fork legs from your existing triple clamps and install the offset fork legs from an LTD or Spectre, the offset will lead to a decrease in trail, thus speeding up steering. I don't know what if anything is different about the steering stems, and the wheel should be the same between the different bikes other than the color.

I assumed by putting the axle in front of the forks allowed for longer travel of the front end and also to increase the wheel base. My Z1 has a short wheel base and has a tight turning radius. ( I like that) It has also been prone to high speed wobbles. Part of the reason for a swing arm mod I'm working on is it will be 1-1 1/2" longer. That and with the gussets I'm adding hopefully will cure this problem.
I liked the extended travel of the front end and the length but the air assist and extra travel didn't seem to gain much on a street bike. IMO

The 750E triple tree is angled forward, whereas the Spectres is kinda straight across.

you got it backwards.
more offset gives you a lower trail value
less offset gives you a higher trail value.

all things being equal, if you swap to the specter triple trees your bike will turn slower but be more stable. Considering the leading axle forks on the spectre essentially are adding offset to the triple tree 750E would handle slower than a Specter because the E forks are not leading axle.

Here is a super useful rake and trail calculator
