400 and 440 frame was created by Cmjones
Hello all. Im sure this has been asked before but I'm having a hard time finding the answer. I have a 76 kz400 that everything is good on and it runs great except my title is long long gone and in a dead realitives name. I have a 81 440ltd frame that is clean and titled but not much good for anything else. Does anyone know if I can swap over my engine, wheels, tank, and everything over from the 400 to the 440. I see where people are doing the opposite but I couldn't find any real good info on it. Thank for the help.

I think the motor will swap, but a lot of the peripheral stuff probably won't. I think the frame, around the airbox area, is very different. The 400 has a center frame tube, whereas the 440, I think , has two perimeter tubes.

Thanks for the response. From what I can see that is the biggest obvious difference in the two. However I'm not running a factory airbox as I have vm30's with pod filters. I was hoping just to swap my triples with the forks and all and if not just the back wheel maybe the whole swingarm. I need a new seat something fierce so I wasn't worried with it. I also just redid all my electronics so I was just going to move everything over. I think I'm going to go ahead and take a stab at it. Worst case I guess I'll just have a good chance to clean my 400 frame and keep using it since it'll be stripped down. It sure is hard to find another 76 400 with a clean title. I'll post my results back in case anyone else ever runs into something like this. Cheers!

The triples will swap and the 440 swing arm is a better design.

Awesome. Hopefully I can mesh these things together and make something work. I'm used to Honda's and Harley's. This is my first Kawasaki, but so far the thing runs like a champ. Thanks for the input everyone.
