Vestigial Frame Element? was created by wrenchmonkey
What is this for?

I thought it may be unique to this model or something but I've noticed it seems to be on many models on this forum.

Wow! How cool is that? I'd never have guessed is was a security measure. I have never seen anything like this on any motorcycle I've owned before. I thought for sure it was some frame barb that was used in the production of the bike for some assembly procedure and then just left there.
You gotta hand it to the smart Japanese engineers! The more I get to know about these Kawasaki's, the more I appreciate the differences from other Rising Sun makers.

I was a Honda guy in the early 70's but after riding with Z1's, I had to have one and never looked back. B) The CB 750's were the thing back then. Riding with them and looking at them in the turns in my mirror looked to me like they were riding on a log.

It seems like if the cable is installed or the little cap is missing, it might allow water to get inside the frame.

Correct . A rotted out bottom rail is common on these eventually causing failure of the side stand mount with obvious results.

What?
They thought to provide a security system but forgot a tiny drain hole? Doh!
So it may not be stolen but it then will collapse in rust.
Sigh

Um? Isn't that the spinny thing with the spiral doohicky? But then how do you flip the motorcycle upside down to get the hole in the right spot?

I take off the tank and lay it on the alternator cover on blocks of wood to get underneath.
