82 GPz750 shock spring removal? was created by GKBO
Since I have a nicer pair of stock 72GPz 750 shocks to work on now I was wondering if anybody has tried removing the springs on a set.I am guessing the damping adjuster bell is going to make it interesting if not impossible..If nobody has tried I have a set of dead shocks to experiment on

Some direction to look at before hand would be nice though.Far easier to clean up everything if I could get the springs off.

I don't know for sure about yours, but many shocks have a slotted collar and retainer on top of the spring. To remove them, the spring must be compressed. Progressive makes a handy tool foe that, or you may be able to borrow a suitable one from an auto parts store that lends tools.

These don't have thar kind of collar as far as I can see.Have a way of compressing the springs www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread...ial-tools&highlight=

Are you sure? The dust cover may be disguising it. I suppose the retainer could be cast with the top eye and retained by a roll pin.

And the answer is(drum roll :) ) Once the spring is compressed you can get to the wire bell retainer easy.Once the bell comes off the adjuster mechanism is reviled.A spur gear to the mechanism in the shock engages a nylon ring gear the bell slips over.It all comes off easy :cheer: .The spring seat is the easy slide out type.Glad I tried it out on my POS shock ,now I can see if my nicer ones have any damping left at all or are only good to make my chassis a roller.

Well there's 2 bits of bad news. The shocks have next to no compression damping and not enough rebound either .Only good for place keeper till I can source new ones :( .The other is no pics because my camera's batteries died.My cell camera will not export to my computer  So no pics, sorry Texas.
