Knocking scraping noise from KZ750 shaft was created by JoHNY
Well after completely rebuilding the whole bike and engine I took it out for a very short spin. Engine is sound but there is horrible knocking coming from the gearbox end of the shaft drive. I put it on the centre stand killed the motor and spun the real wheel by hand and there it was, this knocking sound. I've obviously put the shaft back together in error but has anyone got any ideas what this could be? Sounds like it's coming from the UJ????

If it is similar to the first gen Concours shaft, I don't think it can be installed wrong. Could be thu uj or may be something wacked in the front bevel gear case. Probably need to yank that bad boy out and take a look.

Does the output shaft have a spring loaded detent that goes into a hole in the front yoke of the shaft? If so, and if it was not lined up properly, tha end of the shaft might slide back and forth a bit instead of slip joint sliding.
Sorry for the multiple random posts. My aged memory cells don't work so smoothly as they used to

Cheers Tex, I think you may be right. It seems like the UJ is scrapping the inside of the swing arm housing. I was just thinking the motor may be out of line at the rear but it was a snug fit in the frame at the rear. I remember seating the wee pin correctly but I may not have. Don't think it's the bevel box as that was never touched. Another thought was I might of missed a washer/spacer when attaching the swing arm to the frame causing the swing arm to seat either too far left or right?

Good catch. Some garage gremlin no doubt swiped it when you were not looking. You may need to call an exterminator
