Front brake seizure? was created by JoHNY
Bizzare problem on my pals 91 CBR1000F. Bike has been stood for a number of years and the front lever is rock hard, no movement. Strange thing is if you remove the MC cap and pump the lever the lever loosens up and feels normal. Pistons move in and out easily and the floating carriers are not seized. Obviously I need to replace the fluid but why would removing the cap free up the brakes? Might it have something to do with some kind of vacuum in the MC caused by a faulty rubber seal under the cap

That is odd!

Unless the reservoir was overfilled to start with, my only guess is that when the cap was removed, it jarred loose whatever was jamming the master cylinder piston. What happened when you put the lid back on?

Could the vent in the cap be plugged?
