1980 KZ650E Tank Swap was created by DontFallTim
I've been working on a 1980 KZ650E for a few months now, and in misuse of MEK found part of the tank patched/filled with bondo, hiding a dent.
I want this bike to rock a shiny chrome tank in the future, but from what I've read the '80 650 LTD makes tank swaps hard. What tanks are compatible with the frame, preferably without mods? Hopefully a more common model like the KZ750 fours or KZ1000s?
Sorry if this is the wrong forum, not sure what gas tanks fall under so I went by an old, similar topic.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I don't think any other CC model will fit directly. A more common tank from a 1977-1979 KZ650 will fit. A 77-79 KZ650B or C model is the common larger tank, 1978-79 KZ650D SR model uses identical tank to a 1980 KZ650E I believe.

I think the 650D SR tank is the same as the Ltd. The 650B/C/F tanks have the same rear mounting damper, but they're shaped differently at the rear. You can do some comparing at Partzilla & eebbaayy. fuel tank & frame diagrams. The 750-4 tanks I've seen are different. the 750E/H have a bolt at the rear & some of the other models have a mounting bracket of some sort or another.
