Experience w/current crop of Z-1 repop speedos? was created by slmjim+Z1BEBE
Hi all,
We're looking at options to make our green/yellow '73 Z-1 a metric bike.
We have a US-spec ND speedo that's a swap meet find that has a damaged case, but it can be be rebuilt with a metric faceplate. It probably won't read true KPH on the speedo or KM. on the odometer but that's not really much of an issue.
We've seen some non-ND repro speedos too, at a few vendors. They are available in both metric/KPH and SAE/mph versions.
Does anyone have any experience good or bad with the aftermarket reproduction Z-1 speedos?
Good Shootin'

Could anyone elaborate please?
The items on Z1 Parts are likely from the same manufacturer, be they Japanese, Korean or wherever. The main differences would be calibration and faceplates depending on if KPH or MPH.
Time and / or miles durability?
What is the failure mode?
Are the repops all of the same manufacturer and just coming from different U.S. vendors?
Thanks Gentlemen.

I had bad luck with mine. I bought from them and they have a 100% money back guarantee. I know of no other that has it.

My first new re-issue, aftermarket speedometer only lasted under 1,380 miles before it took a crap!
I recently found another one from a seller who had not yet installed it. So I took a chance on it
I got a good deal on for under hundred dollars shipped and I have about 700 miles on that one now.
Using posted radar speed announcers on the hiways around here, it is not too far off in accuracy.
It reads not quite +2mph at 50mph, (reads a thick needle's width past 50mph) ...and +3mph at 70mph, or reads about 73'ish mph.
However, the needle is already starting to wag a bit at about 60mph and +- 3 to 4 mph at 70-80mph.
So, I have very little confidence in these reissue speedometers and tachometers.
$320 a pair? Not worth it.

Coming up to my daughter's for my birthday the speedo started wagging wildly and the odometer started spinning a mile every few seconds. I guess I'll have to send this one back too  . They said they got a bad batch and they do stand by their products. That's more than I can say for others.

Hi all,
Thanks for the responses. That was helpful.
We sent a damaged swap meet find speedo to ZRESTO for evaluation that might come back with MPH internals and a KPH faceplate.
