Wondering if newer style sportbike clip on controls would work on a standard handle bar set-up? As in, slide the controls, throttle tube, levers, etc off of the clip ons and put them onto our handle bar set up. I'm pretty knowledgeable on rewiring all the switches, so that won't be an issue. The only issue I would see is that some of the newer throttle cable ends I've seen aren't the same as our set up, but I'm sure I can fab something up to make them work?

Anyone already accomplish this swap?

Any info would be awesome.

Well, just bought a used 07 ZX10 complete left clip on for pretty cheap to try it out.

I'll update to see if this works out the way I planned. If it does, I'll buy a right clip on and try and convert the throttle side.

only concern is if the new control wires are not long enough to reach the original harness. if it does its just a matter of wiring it up correctly

I fitted ZX9R controls to my CSR1000 build. From clip-ons to quite wide, straight bars. Length was a bit of an issue but I just about managed it.
I also had to modify the throttle cable. The biggest challenge was wiring up European ZXR switches (with a headlight on/off and a pass button) to an American loom. Im not an electrician.
The other thing Im not sure about yet is if the angle of the master cylinders is going to be a problem, I havent bled the brakes/clutch yet. Thats another thing. To satisfy my sense of symmetry, I had to ditch the cable clutch and convert to hydraulic. Its all in my build thread somewhere.

I'm pretty good with wiring and such, so it shouldn't be an issue either way.

That's good to know...this should be a pretty straight forward swap then.

I'll report back with my progress....

The master cylinder will be the hard part. Do you have duel or single front calipers? I use these modern switches.
The left side switch has a passing light switch and it will also turn the headlight off.

I use the exact same items that 80B4 posted. I use an aftermarket Motion Pro dual cable throttle housing instead of the stock one. Been running that way for almost 15 years now.

So I ordered the left clip on off of a 06-07 ZX10R and it came in last week. It fits great. Still haven't looked into the wiring, but again that's no big deal. I went ahead and ordered a full right clip on from the same year 06-07 ZX10R and some new MZS shorty adjustable levers. The master cylinder swap shouldn't be too hard once I figure out the length I need for the brake line. Once I get all the parts in and some more time in the garage, I'll snap some pics with it all mocked up. It should look pretty sweet.

Now I'm looking for a more sleek all-in-one digital cluster set up to continue the modernization process along with a HID or LED Headlight and LED Taillight set-up.

Got all the parts in and temp installed everything onto the handlebars, but with the original KZ controls just to see how they look and fit. The original RH KZ control is too wide and won't allow the ZX brake lever assembly to be adjusted to a suitable pitch. It's hitting the triple tree right where the fork mounts. The LH control fits perfectly fine.

Going with the original plan to swap over the ZX controls, but looking to find the correct connectors to make it plug and play without hacking up the original bike harness or hacking off the new reman original control harnesses.

Can anyone confirm the connector type? If I remember right what the connector looked like....some research shows it might be a 110 series 6 pin female like this one: www.houseofkawasaki.com/namz-custom-cycl...m?productId=22511886

I'm at work now and can't get my hands on the connector until later, but it would be nice to have someone else confirm this.

Wiring might be more complex than you're thinking

I've already looked at that site and it doesn't look like they have the connector I need.

I already have the wiring pretty much sorted out. I made this simple diagram in paint. It's really not that hard.
