You can sucking in air into the system over the loosen bleeder threat.

I use tubing on the bleeders laying in a container with fluid in it. That way air can't be sucked back into the system.

Here's an update. I left the brake lever taped to the handlebar for a few days while at work. Got back and had another try - still no good. Then I realised that the RH calliper bleed nipple thread had broken so that calliper is trashed. A piece of it has broken off completely. Now I'm looking for a replacement calliper as my local Kawasaki guy is away on holiday....
Partzilla are listing a new complete calliper - anyone tried theirs?

The master cylinder was the wrong one. It was the narrow bore for the single disc setup. I'm having it bored & reamed to take the larger piston. That's why it was impossible to bleed, not enough displacement for the twin discs. I'm also getting a re-furbed calliper, so hopefully back on the road next Tues. We seem to be having nice weather here this week, shame to waste it!

You can use a single (1/2) or twin disk (5/ MC to bleeding a twin disc system.
On my project bike i bleeding a (ZX9R) 6-piston twin disk system with a Z1B single disk (1/2) MC with no problems.

I've had this work before: Take off one caliper at a time. Make sure the bleeder is at th 12 O'clock position. Use a pair of channel locks to put some pressure on the piston. Bleed out as normal. Do the other side. The key point is that the bleeder MUST be straight up. If not, air will be trapped over the top of the bleeder.

Thanks scirocco, not my experience but I'm glad your setup works.
havakaw, I had to google "channel locks", I actually have several, just never heard of that name before!
