'81 GPz550 speedo same as 750E speedo? was created by Nessism
Kawasaki lists two part numbers for speedos for my 750E2: 25005-1154 (what I have) and 25004-1066. You can see "1154" printed on the face in the lower right edge of the gauge face. I've seen other 750E speedos with the 1066 gauge however (on ebay).
The '81 GPz550 speedo also has that same 1066 imprinted on the face, only that gauge has a large trip meter knob and is sold under the 25004-1117 part number. The early 550's and 750's both shared a lot of speedo & tach part numbers so it makes sense for there to be some cross pollination going on.
So my question is whether that -1117 speedo is the same as the -1066 speedo other than the trip meter knob?
Both the 550 and 750 use the same speedo gearbox on the wheel so everything points to the -1117 being useable for my bike. Reason for asking is because the speedo and tach needles warble on my bike. I found a new tach and now need a speedo. I tried to order them from Partzilla since they showed as still available, only they weren't. So now I'm stuck with ebay.

The plot thickens...
The 550 LTD C model bikes seem to have used a wide variety of speedo's including the common -1066, plus the -1091 & -1151. There are NOS units on ebay for these last two part numbers. It's surprising that there are so many different part numbers that all seem interchangeable. There has to be some differences, but what?

The different part numbers might mean they came from different vendors, contracts or minor engineering changes. They might be superseding parts or concurrent.

I can see the 1066 number on Paowersorts Warehouse website and Kawasaki.com but not the other numbers so was thinking perhaps the 1117 etc #s were superceeded. I have some older software (courtesuy of Zephyrrider) on an old windows 32 bit laptop with a busted screen but will charge it up and plug in a monitor tomorrow and see if it can shed a light on this

The part number info is wonky; looking on Kawasaki.com I found the -1154 speedo (which is installed on my bike) listed for the 1982 KZ550A3, but not my bike.
These gauges are made by Nippon Seiki. It's printed right on the face plate.

Figured out a small tidbit about the 550 C gauges...
The 1980 bikes launched with the -1066 speedo, same part that came on the early 750E. In 1981 automatic cancel turn signals were added and the speedo had a slot added for a small sensor probe, thus the part number became -1091. Later this part number rolled to -1151 for unknown reasons. I think any of these parts should be fine on the 750E, just need a piece of tape over the slot on the later part numbers.

That makes perfect sense. Sounds like youre making progress where I can only report failure. I managed to dust off the old busted screen laptop and connect a monitor but cant get the parts software to work the way it should.

Got my third rejection from Partzilla after ordering a speedo they said was still available, only it wasn't. If nothing else I've helped clean up the fishe in this regard since the parts are now showing as "not available".
So that leaves ebay. One guy has a listing for 2 NOS -1066 speedos, only the photo shows a speedo with a tripmeter knob like the one off the GPz550 speedo which is the -1117. Another guy has listing for a -1117 so I've asked him to beat the other guys price. I have a feeling he is going to refuse but we'll see...

Shot myself in the foot. Bought that '81 GPz550 speedo, P/N -1117 but with 1066 printed on the face, and now realize a key difference between the different gauges, namely some have the blue housing showing around the periphery of the glass and others have a blacked out lip. You can still see the blue under the lip but it's not as prominent on the blacked out gauges. This difference is so obvious once you realize what you are looking at it that I'm kicking myself. I dismissed the blue ring as a camera angle thing but clearly it's not.

This may sound like a stupid question, but what are you trying to do? Find a speedometer to match the tachometer or what?
Have you checked into the 1000P police gauges? .... suggesting this because of the 120 mph speedo.
For reference & comparison only.
81 KZ750E
1980 KZ750E. pretty sure.
KZ1000-P Police ..... 1982 but the newer gauges are the same. 82-2005.

I want a set of gauges that are the same size as the originals and have the same features (redline in the same place and in the case of the tach, an "headlamp" warning lamp bulb socket". I bought a NOS original tach so that's covered, but now I've got a speedo with a blue band bezel around the periphery of the glass lense instead of a black bezel.
Here are photos showing my gauges. Last photo shows a gauge with the blue band. My bad on not noticing this before...

Most meters I've seen have the light green or blue band around the perimeter, such as the 750E meters I linked.
