Can anyone ID the model Kz my rims came from? was created by StreetfighterKz
I bought two Kz front wheels on eBay (fairly cheap) and the seller didn't know exactly what model they were from. I only really need the hubs anyways, but I want to find a matching speedometer drive.
I didn't take pictures of the hubs but they utilize a 4 bolt pattern, single rotor (a chrome cover plate covers one side), and use a 17mm axle. Both hubs are the same.
I did take a pic of the stampings on the rims. Both are 19x1.85.
One says 305 878 and the other is 7C 305. Looking at the codes on the Kawi Triples resource site, the 305 is a H1-500 rear with the dates being August, 1978 and March 1977, respectively. None of it makes any sense since that's past the build range of 500's and not a rear rim size.
I can get pics of the hubs later this evening.
Any guidance would be appreciated.

My guess is the wheels are from a '77 to '80 KZ650B. I believe the KZ650 used the 1.85x19 rim, a single 4-bolt disk, and 17mm axle. If your reading of the date codes is correct, then this fits as well. Also, the 650 sold well so the parts are pretty common.

the front hub with 7C is early 77. The 185" a 19" is common across a few models. The hub is KZ style - so likely KZ1000A or it could be very late KZ900A model. The other one I'm not sure - Takasako changed their date codes and the 878 is one I don't know.

Jeff, is there any difference between the kz650 and kz1000 wheels? I've never compared the two.

I looked at most '77-'79 Kz model parts diagrams on Partzilla and I thought the larger Kz's had a circlip and speedo tang on the left side. Both rims have a speedo blank off washer and not circlip groove.

I just looked up the hub in partzilla. The hub for the '78 KZ1000A and '78 KZ650B is the same part number, 41034-041. Same for the rim, 41025-085. Same for the entire wheel assembly, 41074-047.
Cross referencing these parts, it looks like Kawasaki used the same wheel across many models in the late 70s.
So assuming Partzilla has the correct data, if it's a front spoke wheel from 1978, the same wheel assembly was used on the KZ650, KZ750, and KZ1000. The hub actually shows up on the KH400 too.
Here is the list that Partzilla shows for the wheel assembly (and this list is the same for rim by itself).
