I really don't see why tooth count on the sprocket within a couple of teeth would have anything to do with this issue
I agree with Ed that it doesn't look like there is room for the whole tire ass'y to move to the right without causing interference issues on that side
That to me means the 2 halves of the wheel ass'y are not properly fitted , causing the chain/sprocket to be out/to the left farther than designed, this is the space mentioned by Martin CSR
Take a look at the chain alignment with the front sprocket, I would think this condition should show a good amount of misalignment

Try installing the correct sprocket carrier. If yours is from an earlier 1000, then that could be the problem.
In the diagram drawings at Partzilla, the 77 1000A sprocket carrier (coupling assy) looks deeper than the 1000-K.
eebbaayy photos seem to indicate the same to my eye.

It just inserts another variable that needs to be investigated
Aftermarket and OEM are polar opposites?? Is that swingarm for that bike model? or another 1000 model, is it really correct dimensionally left to right??
It appears you have a mish mash of parts that you assumed would just go together and unfortunately that doesn't happen as often as people would think, as your pictures clearly show.
Start eliminating variables, checking Part No's, verifying dimensions to determine what if any part(s) need changed
I would never ride that bike in the condition your pictures show, it's an accident waiting to happen. Let me tell you a chain locking up/tangling up at speed is not a fun ride and often is quite catastrophic
