Guys,

Any idea on lacing an 18" rim to the rear hub of my 82 KZ750 CSR? I'd really like to punch the guy at Kawasaki that decided the CSR model in 82 should go back to a drum brake. I've searched an not found a whole lot. I know rim are typically drilled to a specific hub/spoke orientation but just want to know if anyone knows if another rim will work with my current hub.

The alternative option is to swap out the whole rear wheel but I don't know how hard it is to find one that fits that swingarm. Alternative to that would be swapping the entire swingarm assembly, but don't know how hard that is either.

Feedback appreciated !

best thing to do is to get in touch with Buchanens spokes. They are considered by many to be the best of the best when it comes to wheels. They can get you sorted out, although it probably will cost you a few sheckels to get it done.

Best case is there is a ready available 18" rim they can lace onto your hub. Worst case (IE most expensive) is they can take a blank rim and drill it properly for your rim before mounting it to your hub

The 650-CSR has 48-spoke wheels w aluminum rims. All of the 18" wheels are 40-spoke w steel rims. pretty sure.

I'd guess you could use a complete 650B rear wheel (40-spoke), but that's just a guess. I believe it has the same brake panel assy & rear axle, so the fitment is probably pretty close.

deleted info. my mistake. was thinking the bike was a 650 for some strange reason. doh.

Martin - I've got a 750 CSR which has a 40 spoke wheel (16") and drum brake hub. I want to put an 18" rim on my current hub and was hoping the rims for another bike would be drilled at the same angle as the 16" so I could just lace up the wheel and hub myself.

Like I said, if you cant figure out if there is a direct match, Buchanens will drill a non dimpled rim for you for $1.50 per hole. So $60 for the drilling, plus the cost of a blank 18" rim, plus their cost to lace it up and true it. Will be money, but you may not have a lot of other choices

my mistake. I have a 650-csr & was thinking that's what your bike was. my mind must have been in la-la land. didn't respond earlier because of it being a 750-CSR. The stuff about the 650B wheel still applies, though, as your 750M has the same brake panel assy & rear axle. I don't know anything about re-lacing wheels or if an 18" rim can be laced to a 16" hub. sorry to muck up the topic.
