Clutch cable was created by missionkz
Bummer..... +40,000 miles on my KZ1000A clutch cable and it broke two nights ago right at the lever/barrel end.
I was 18 miles from home, across town with my wife on board.
That was a juggling act to get home...jeeze!
The only good cable I have is cheap $15 motion pro cable from, who knows when I bought it.
Looks light weight compared to my original Kaw cable.
I installed it anyhow but....??
Thoughts or comments?

40,000 is impressive, I ran into the same problem and ended up going to Kawasaki for a fresh one.
How old is the motion pro cable you have? I hope they fix the problem.
I always carry a back up cable with me and have only had to go to it once in 6 years,
It can be a real problem if you are a long way from home with no clutch.
The crappy mp cable might be an OK back up but i wouldn't trust it for the long hauls

The cable end needs to be lubricated so the ball end can rotate. That helps extend cable life. 40k is good life though. I'd order up a new OEM cable.

My 3 cables are all original and after 39 years of abuse (although I do lube em and grease em well too) I'd never use anything else if one ever decides to break...... Maybe its time but no fraying and still smooth so I hate to even touch em.

Buy the original if possible, but I doubt highly Kawasaki still offers the cable. They discontinued the KZ650 cables about 15yrs back. I would guess the KZ1000 likewise. Motion Pro cables are not too bad.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I just installed the PMC clutch kit on my KZ1000 to prevent this problem and make the bike more fun to ride. I predict it will be worth the $110 but time will tell.

The cable on my GPZ got so bad last month that I replaced mine. I was able to find OEM from Partzilla. My cable, which I could have used a little longer with a good lube, did a respectable 30k on this bike and that was with minimal lubing (if at all) from the previous owners. 40k is pretty damn good.

My 77' KZ1000A "stock" clutch cable is also starting to fray at the barrel end. Bike has Superbike handlebars.

So which cable would you recommend if Motion-Pro is not all that good ?

I just cant get my hydraulic set up to work so Im going to strip it off and refit the original cable set up.I have all the parts including the cable but its well frayed.I hope it ll hold up for a while as I dont want to buy a new one. (Ill eventually put the hydraulic system back on once I figure out how to get it working right). Kawasaki still do an original cable for my CSR though its not cheap. a company called 'Slinky' does a pattern version. It seems a quite popular brand but I havent had any experience with them.
I did change the bars on my bike and had to shorten the throttle cable. A simple job of snipping the old nipple off and soldering on a new one, after shortening the sleeve.
