Starting a new resawrecktion and could use some help...
I want to install a zx6 swingarm into my 76 KZ frame. The arm is wider by roughly 1/4”, as most of you know and I have that issue mostly figured out
The swingarm is also offset maybe as much as 1/2” to the right side at the pivot. In my reading and searches I haven’t found where anyone addresses this offset. I am planning on running a 5.5” wheel and 180 tire
Is this how it’s supposed to be for the chain? Will the tire-wheel line up centered with the frame by offsetting it in the swingarm?
Do I need to have 1/2” milled off the right side then have spacers made to center it at the pivot? Am I looking at this wrong?
In my eyes, if I just mill off enough to make the arm fit and install it, i’ll Be turning right a lot.

Every swing arm swap is different.
Simplest way if you can get away with it would be to machine the S/A pivot on the right by that 1/4" or so to get the arm in the frame and then make up suitable sized spacers to center the wheel in the arm in relation to the center of the s/a pivot.
For a 5.5" rim (170/180 tyre) you will need a 5/8ths offset front sprocket and some material machining off the rear sprocket cush drive face ( usually around 8mm with the 5.5" ZX wheels).
If it's tight on the sprocket side for a spacer you may also have to remove material in that area of the cush drive and sink the bearing and seal in further ( this also mean shortening the cush spacer behind the bearing).
If it's tight on the brake side for the caliper mount or spacer that can't be sorted out by a slimmer spacer or modified caliper mount you may have to shift the arm over at the pivot by taking a bit more off the right side and adding a spacer to the left.

Original thought yes, 5.5” Zx6 6 spoke wheel.
I’m still doing research and collecting parts. I have a 6” wheel with 190 tire but haven’t checked to see if it will fit. The way things compute in my head, everything should be symmetrical and that’s why the arm offset at the pivot has me unsure. I’m going to run the dual rear shocks and it seems the mounts on the arm will have to be attached slightly off as well so that they center to the frame.
Before I start cutting limbs off the frame I want to be sure of my reasoning. Measure twice cut once.
I could just be overthinking this.....

The only way you can use a 6" rim /190 tyre in a true central position is to recess the frame around the swingarm pivot for the chain run clearance.
You will also need a 7/8th's offset front sprocket and still machine the rear cush drive.
Even with the 5.5" /180 tyre the chain only clears the frame and tyre by a couple of mill.

i've done several of these conversions zx6/636 swingarm into kz.
you will simplify everything by running the zx6 rear wheel.
you can run a 180 rear tire on the stock zx6 rim.
you will need a 12/13mm offset front sprocket.
the shock brackets do hang over the upper edge of the arm.
the pivot needs to be centered in the frame.
the center bushing that has the inner races for the pivot bearing also needs to be shortened accordingly.
the asymmetric design of the arm accommodates the cush drive.
the zx6 rear caliper bracket can be modified to rotate the caliper back so it will clear dual shocks.
here are some pics.

I also have an ‘81 J frame with the front and rear from a hayabusa but whoever built it seems to have dicked it up. I bought it cheap for the motor and also so I could see what not to do. The chain rubs the frame and I’m sure the chain line isn’t square to the bike.
Leon, do you make those little dust covers for the swingarm?
