Wheel bearing grease is fine for this application.

I use Permatex Ultra disk brake caliper lube in the little packets & additionally apply a little on the brake shoe pivots.
And also use it on the levers, brake pedal shaft & cable ends as it stays put, is waterproof and resists dust & grit.
One of those little packets lasts a long time & they're sold as a pair. It now also comes in a small tube.

Are you installing new brake shoes?

Martins advice is better, I misread and thought you were taking about the brake pedal pivot.

I use wheel bearing grease on the working parts in drum BRAKES. I'd rather have waterproof wheel bearing grease but like all the good things it is being phased out by the do gooders.

I would use copper grease on brake parts but anybody has a special magical grease for the field of application.

You must use a lot of grease. I've had a tub of Bel-Ray marine waterproof grease for years & it's more than half full >> I used it on the fork & wheel bearings. Maybe a boat shop has something?

For the drum brake I prefer disk brake grease as it's high temp, resists moisture & doesn't wash out plus it's intended for brakes. also, I think it's kind of electro-neutral, so it doesn't attract dirt & grit.

Bendix white lithium brake grease.

Low/no volatiles or fluids, so it doesn't migrate (creep) across surfaces.

We've had the can for years. A little goes a long way.
