Phenolic brake piston surface repair? was created by runmikeyrun
Hi everyone.

One of the phenolic pads on my metal brake piston is chipped away. I was wondering if I can sand it down flat and still use the piston or if I HAVE to replace.

I say have to because I know we should t skimp on stuff like brakes. However, a new piston is $60 and I just don’t have the cash right now. If it’s safe enough to use on the rear by sanding it flat then that’s what I will do. My impression is the phenolic has to do with resisting heat transfer. If it’s on the rear it should get way less heat than the fronts.

Thoughts?

Maybe I wasn’t clear, the end of the piston has a wafer of phenolic material on it. The brake pads themselves are not.

It’s the brown part on top of the piston.

Ahh, remember seen this on a ZX900/1000 caliper, your wafer are an anti squeak pad.
No Need to to use them anymore with a light layer of copper grease on the backside of the brake pad
