Finally got around to installing a set of Cartridge Emulators into my forks last weekend, with 10w fork oil. I'm blown away by the difference; they used to bottom out on braking and nose dive, no more. They actually dampen now...high speed and low speed. They were a little too big so I had to turn them down, this allowed me to exactly fit them to the inside diameter of the forks for a perfect seal....which I found out the fork tubes are 5mm thick...thats pretty stout. I'm still tuning them, but overall I'm very happy. I'm trying keep the period correct S1 replica look. Larger modern forks would change that..maybe later down the road I might upgrade them, but for now since I had these, I'm going play around with them. Next thing I'm going to do is get a set of preload adjusters from PMC, and upgrade the springs with the right rate. I think the oil weight could be upped too. I put zip ties around the tubes to measure travel on both. Comparing to the old setup the forks bottomed completely...and "bouncing" caused sever unbalanced pogoing on the front. ..and at a different rate than the rear upgraded zrx1100 KYB shocks. I'm going to get a fork brace as well to stiffen and stop any independent fork action.

They will never be as good as modern forks, but, they are 10 times better than before.

Downside, to adjust them you have to pull the emulator out...and it can only be adjusted for compression. Rebound is adjusted using oil weight. I'm looking at ways to modify the emulator for rebound.

Are there check plate spring options? That would affect rebound, or changing the diameter any passages.

They make a rebound valve for the ZRX 1100. Maybe you could adapt them or design something similar.

I do have a ZRX1100 as well, and another complete set of ZRX forks..which was the original plan. I have fully disassembled and overhauled them, and in the process did reverse engineer the rebound valving. It works on a needle valve that basically constricts flow as it is screwed in.

Good thought though; I'm working up a design, something that can handle both low and high speed rebound.

Thinking multi rate spring...fully compressed there is a lot of force to rebound like on a pot hole at speed, or high speed dip. But slow moderate compression depth equals less force slower rebound light rate.
