Just to muddy up the water a bit, when I bought my 1975 Z1B new it came with a weird looking keyfob. It was oval shaped 2 piece plastic item roughly 2" long and my ignition key was attached to it with a chain. I didn't have a clue what the thing was really for, so I asked my salesman. He walked me over to the bike and stuck the plastic oval shaped keyfob into the oval hole on the gauge panel and said there, now you know what it's for. What you were supposed to put into the plastic container I will never know, but I folded up my registration card and put it in the oval fob. As a bonus the salesman said the fob will float in water and I thought oh that's just great! The fob had the name of the dealership and telephone number on it so it may have been something they invented, but I never saw a plastic or rubber plug come stock in the oval hole.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

The rubber bung for the Keyholder hole was not used in North America. I was found on bikes in some European countries and also in Japan on the Z2.

Guy in Germany made a short run of them about 8 yrs. ago. Maybe a guy in Australia at about the same time also (that you, Kidkawie?)
Info we have is they weren't present in most countries. They seem to be pretty much localized to Germany, but unsure if elsewhere.
The part # mentioned earlier and in the fleaBay posting should be correct. The pic below is from a Euro parts manual. We don't have the mating page that lists part #'s. The part identified as item #51 is not present in any of our N. American parts manuals, or in any service bulletin.

By Robb2018: I like your Lowes plug for a buck and a half. No need to cut a slot.
Assuming a plastic plug from wherever will fit the hole. I have no idea what the diameter is.

Yes, I got mine from Achim years ago. IIRC, there is an aftermarket dash without the hole?
