Why do some easy things need to be so difficult. The wheels showed up today and they are missing the tires. I contacted the seller and got the reply. You’d be disappointed if I had sent them as they were worn out, and besides you got a great deal on the wheels. I went back to the auction and checked every photo in the auction included pictures of the rims with tires mounted. So my reply to him was when you list an item and show photos of said item the buyer has a reasonable assumption they are getting everything included in the photos unless verbiage in the auction qualifies what is, or is not included. His follow up reply was if that’s what you want I will send you the tires. I replied yes thank you. Then he comments “I don’t have the tires they were damaged by the dealership that removed them”, I will pay for shipping please return the rims. I replied now your story has changed again first they were worn now they are damaged and you don’t have them. I said if the tire buster damage them go to them and ask for a replacement value tire and send them to me. The tire shown In the auction are Michelin pilots. I have no direct experience with this tire. I’m asking advice of the members here. Please look at the included photos screenshot right from the eBay auction and give me an opinion, do they look worn out. Would anyone know the value of these tires in their current condition. One other observation, it looks like a very nice shop the wheels were in when pictures were taken, a dealership maybe?

Oh you're gonna have fun. I bought four front wheels for my build because they all said straight in the listing and they definitely were not. I got refunded for the others but still... Huge waste of time.

Forget about the tires. Just take a partial refund and buy a cheap set of shinkos for the build/test stage

I wanted the tires so I could mock them up and check for clearance and make adjustments to size when buying a new set. The seller has offered a $50 credit. I’d say the tire in their condition appear to have more value. Also the fact he took the time to remove them leads me to think they have significant value. Thoughts on offer? I feel I’m right, but don’t know how Evilbay would resolve it. The rims are damn near perfect. I don’t think I’ll find an equivalent set for the price I paid.

I would take the 50 mate and give him a review to match you feelings on the sale, over here you could get the pair of part worn PILOTS for around £80 on the bay. Im in love with those wheels though..cant stop imagining them on a GPZ1100. What is the axle diam front and rear in mm if you don't mind me asking?

Maybe he took the tyres off to bring down the postage costs. You should be able to get a free pair of knackered tyres from your local bike shop for the mock up.

Thanks. I was thinking that same thing. When I had my local dealer do previous tire work I drove thru the alley on my way out and saw a stack of used tires, I have a question, if a tire is a 180 how much difference in size will there be between mounted and dismounted. The rear rim originally had a 180 tire, the rim is 5.5in wide. If I need to co to a smaller tire what would be the smallest I can safely mount on the 5.5in rim.

The difference between mounted and un mounted will be small, maybe. If you are planning to run a much narrower tire than is customary on that size wheel, the tire may deform quite a bit. If the clearance is really close anywhere, I think it would be best to mount the exact brand, model and size tire you want to use. There are sometimes significant differences in tires of the exact size, even between different models from the same manufacturer. A well used tire should be fine for mockup.
Michelin Pilot Sport tires are among the very best in that category, and are quite expensive new. I have never bought used tires, so I do not know what they might have been worth, but it does look like the seller has done you wrong.

P.S. Most, maybe all, of the major tire manufacturers list recommended wheel widths on their website. I would be inclined to follow those recommendations.

TexasKZ,
I found out exactly what you said when I talked to Les, he mentioned that even tire sized at lets say a 180 will actually be very different widths. Unless i would buy 10 tires and measure How would I find out which brand might be narrower if that's what I need.
