Sprocket nut size help! was created by slayer61
Guys, I need your help. I'm at work (where I have access to a wider collection of tools) and Mrs. slayer's chain set has arrived from Sprocket Specialties. What size socket do I need to remove the countershaft sprocket on her GPz 11? It's an '81 if it makes a difference.

No one has responded to this point. I for one do not know the answer, but from parts lists for you year and model indicate a bolt of 10 x 39 or 10 x 35.
I do not know this for a fact but some online sites indicate that for this size bolt made use of 17 mm heads, others indicate 14mm or 16mm as head sizes for this size bolt.
See this links www.boltdepot.com/Fastener-Information/B...-Bolt-Head-Size.aspx

Now having said all of this I am not claiming what the answer is but did not want you to have no responses to your question.

According to Partzilla, all of the 1000 and 1100 engines in 1981 and 1982 use the same 10 X 39 flanged bolt. The one for my LTD fits a 17mm socket perfectly.

So, I'm quite embarrassed!   I haven't even taken the cover off yet (obviously...) and was expecting a big nut on the end of the shaft! I have a 17mm socket, I'm sure! Thanks to you all and especially those with advice for this knuckle head!

No worries. The splines on the shaft and sprocket do all the heavy lifting. The bolt is there only to keep the sprocket from sliding off the splines.
