Fork seals was created by Pattenrd
Replacing the fork seal on rebuild of 1978 kz1000  got front forks already disassembled had lowers powder coated putting all balls seals in which way do they go flat side spring up or down not to clear in sevice manual

Spring down. Although I don’t recall ever seeing a spring but I only use OEM.

Seconding Mikaw. I can say from personal trial and error that putting the seal in spring side up is a subpar plan.

OEM fork seals have the springs. probably to help them keep a good seal.
Orient downward so that the groove doesn't get filled with road grime & grunge.
