wanting to put spoked rims on my kz550c was created by bcfox0630
i have a 1982 kz550c and want to put on spoke rims and it seems in my findings that all the other models came with this option and i am a new bike builder and need some advice? I actually would like to possibly do 18in in front and back? Any suggestions?

Howdy. Here's some info.
The 70s 650B had 40-spoke wheels: 19" Fr & 18" Rr w steel rims. Single disk Fr brake & Rr drum.
The 81-82 650H CSR were 48-spoke: 19" Fr & 16" Rr w aluminum rims. same brake setup as the 550C & 650B.
The csr should be a direct swap: all you would need are the wheels & Fr brake disk; everything else should swap.
The 70s 1000A & 750B Twin also had spoked wheels, but I don't know anything about those models.
Buchanans might have 18" rims that you could have laced up. not sure. ???

The 305 (and possibly, by association, 250) has an 18" spoked front with a single disc. Should be cheap to buy since nobody wants them.

The 81 305 CSR has the same Fr hub as the 82 KZ750-M1 CSR Twin. I forgot about the 750M. I think they're both 40-spoke w steel rims, but the 750M has a 19" Fr rim & 16" Rr. The 305 rear wheel stuff is smaller & less robust than the 550/650/750 models; not sure if it matters or if there would be alignment issues w the drive chain & brake.

I forget where the change is but larger cc bikes have larger axles, bearings, etc. Start by seeing what other models use your wheel bearings.
