Schmutz and Dreck is the German word for any kind of dirt

Schmutz, Dreck = dirt
schmutzig, dreckig = dirty

That makes sense as the Detroit area is a large German  Jewish  community which influences  our local vocabulary

I learned it from my grandma she was Polish/German. Makes sense… I’m 58 years old and never drank a soda... I like a pop every once and a while… I still shop at the corner store, where as a child I bought penny candy… I putz around in my garage almost every day… My washer and dryer are in my back hall.

Thanks all for the delightfully enlightening Michigan / German / yiddish explanations.

Back to the topic:
YES !
it worked. One application of penetrating oil, 48h hours later I proceeded to apply a resolute amount of pounding with hammer via wood, and it worked:

There is some interesting amount of formerly-living schmutz inside the wheel, not sure how it got there or how it would have enjoyed my kind of spirited riding...

+1 !
I say that all the time...
Although it's nice, for once, to come across a problem that can actually be tackled with a hammer...
