Z1-900 front forks on a 78 KZ1000 was created by Wheelhop
Guys,
I will be installing a set of Z1-900 front forks on my 78 KZ1000. Also would like to install a dual disc brake setup while I am doing this.
Here are a few questions:
1) Can I still use the 78 KZ1000 wheel with 4-bolt discs? Will probably use repo Z1 Calipers (2).
2) I will also need Z1 caliper brackets (L and R)
3) Can I use the 78 KZ front axle?
4) I know I will need a dual splitter for the brake hoses and possibly a larger front master cylinder
5) is a different spacer(s) required on the front axle?
6) anything else I am forgetting?
Thanks in advance !

Wheelhop I have some of the parts you may need, splitter, calipers and brackets, brake discs all from a 79 LTD.
I thought you bought both caliper brackets from the guy in Louisville?

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

I have a Z1 and an 80 KZ1000. Here's what I know.
Z1 forks will fit the KZ1000 triple tree. The wheel attaches to the forks in a similar fashion but I'm not sure if the brake calipers will match a 78 wheel disc. The Z1 disc is a 6 bolt. The calipers would fit the discs if you used a Z1 front wheel. I think they would also fit a KZ1000 front wheel too, but I'm not 100% sure. I know that the KZ900 front wheel is identical to a KZ1000 front wheel and that the wheel internals are different than a Z1. And of course the disc mount is 6 bolt.

The caliper brackets I bought in Louisville are left and right for a 76 and up.KZ.. The bolt spacing that the caliper brackets attach to is different on Z1 forks vs. KZ forks.Wheelhop I have some of the parts you may need, splitter, calipers and brackets, brake discs all from a 79 LTD.
