I’m curious as to what Spencer, Lawson, and Cooley were getting their bikes to weigh in the late 70’s / early 80’s.

If these bikes were in the low 400’s with 130+hp, with more torque from bigger displacement, I just think the numbers look attractive for scratching backroads. Like if setup and ridden well, competitive with modern 600 crotch rockets numbers. Plus a better heads up riding position for the street.

What have you guys accomplished with bike weights?

The below says under 400. That must have taken an immense amount of money and effort.

“1984 Laguna Seca, #34 Wes Cooley (Wes Cooley & Associates/Arai/Moto-X Fox/ND/Silkolene/Yoshimura R&D) sitting on the pit wall.  Wes is having some quiet time waiting for his Yoshimura Suzuki GS1000 to be pushed to the grid, prior to the Superbike race.  He finished 2nd, but was DQ’d for weighing in at 387 lbs,,  3 pounds lighter than the 390 lbs. minimum weight limit.”
