Easy....cush drive tightening

Wondering if anyone see's any adverse affects that might stem from placing a peice of bicycle intertube over each one of the cush drive dividers on the sprocket hub to take out the play in the cush drive. You can down or up size the tube depending on the amount of play to be taken out. I did it to my bike a couple months ago & so far so good & it sure is allot less hassel then the winshield epoxie. check out the pic, tried to explain as best I could (which wasn't very good!!LOL). I searched the archives & didn't see where it had been mentioned... Shoot I might of missed the boat & this is common knowlage!!! Any how hope everyone has a super weekend, go fast & be safe!!! First, welcome to the forum!
Second, actually, I did some research on this a while back here in the this forum and in the "archive" - there are quite a few threads about it. Some people like building a rubberized "form" or "mold" that augments the existing cush drive, some people like the tube ideal like yours, and then there's the people who just add an epoxy in there...
After reading them all, I was ready to try the innertube method myself, then a NOS cush drive came up on eBay for ~$30...

I heard about the inner tube fix too, if it works that's all that matters. I fixed mine by removing the cush and applying Auto Goop to the sides. When it dried I popped it back in and that has been working great for over 4000 miles.

The cush drive on my bike is quite a snug fit inside the hub, no play at all. I spray silicone lube on it when assembling to allow it to "squirm " around in there smoothly.

How you know if there is play in it?

I had the same problem. I used sheet aluminum and cut it into spacers that I fit between the hub and the rubber damper. Guess what? It actually worked and I feel no slack when riding at any speed. True, not as cool a solution technically as some of the others but, people, that's what I had late that night in my work shop and that's what I used. Best of success.
