KZ750M1 Chain

I just bought my bike an 82 KZ750M1. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how tight my chain should be. I've been looking around on the internet and haven't found anything yet.

You should look into buying a service manual off ebay or somewhere else to find most service answers and the little things you will need to know as you go along riding your bike .. Leave a little slack in the chain But just a little , dont get the chain to tight as it will tighten when it gets warm ,, Use a good chain lube on it ,, I think the size is 520 if you would ever need to replace it use the marks on the adjusters to make sure you keep your wheel straight

I second these notions!

Overtightening causes undue stress on the drive shaft bearings...
Undertightening is annoying at least... and dangerous at worst...

put the bike on the center stand and spin the wheel while checking the chains tension find the tightest spot then adjust that so there is about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of flex. make sure you clean and lube it. and tighten every thing back down.

After you tighten the chain,sit on the bike and have someone to check and see if the chain is too tight with your weight on the suspension. Roy

On my 650 the manual says to adjust it on the centerstand, with .8 - 1.2 inches travel.

When I have about 1" (center stand adjusted), and off the stand and sit on it, the tension tightens up to about 5/8".

Unfortunately the '82 Kz750 CSR(M1) never came w/ a centerstand. Couldn't even get it as an ad-on.
Thats one mod I'm going to look into when I have mine back up and running. I'm hoping that I'll be able to do it w/the 2-1 pipes I just put on.

That's going to take some engineering since the frame does not even have the mounting tabs for the centerstand. Unfortunately my 80 is the same way

In the garage I just use two jackstands, one under each passenger peg mount. I can raise it as high as needed by walking it up. (tilt towards me, raise the opposite side jackstand, tilt away from me and raise the other jackstand).

So I bought an owner's manual, hopefully it will be here in a day or two. It's my first bike so I'm still kinda finding stuff out and full of questions.

yeah, I do think I'm going to have to weld some tabs to mount the centerstand. To tell the truth I haven't really thought that much about it except having a centerstand would be so nice. I don't know what they are for but my frame does have some kind of tab welded onto the outside of the frame down around where a centerstand would fit on but I have no idea if that is what they are for.
