Steel wool, but be careful on the grades you use. My engine is in my avatar.

Skyman, did you have any oxidation problems after blasting? Or did you coat the fresh metal with something? In the past I've used some acid based cleaner on another set of cylinder jugs that cleaned them up really nice, but, a year later the oxidation started.

Thanks, John

Mothers aluminum polish and a wheel buff on a drill might work good. The mag wheel buff should get in between the fins pretty well.

The fins where you circled the picture are made of cast aluminum, so they'll never get mirror-shiny.
But Mothers or Mr. Buffer and a scotchbrite pad will sure brighten them up.

I agree with the engine painting thing. I was gunho to paint the engine on my z1r, to give it that black glossy finish. I regreted it afterwards 'cus it just didn't fit the bike. A few miles worth of road dust solved the problem though!

I painted mine black, looks real nice with polished covers but now wish paint was off. Can take it off but will be a real mess and am afraid aluminum will be stained gray! So black it is!;) Touch up is easy also. Z1 has great engine paint.

I use steel wool 00 grit and some turtle wax. It works great. For chrome I buy the turtle wax chrome polish/cleaner. Really brightens it up.
