engine looks like crap

does anyone know what is the best way to get this part of the engine to shine like new... or if i paint it what color to do it ?
Instructions for riding a KZ1100 1) sit on bike, 2) start bike and idle till warm, 3) pull in clutch, put in gear, 4) release clutch and rip on the throttle, 5)VERY IMPORTANT!!HOLD THE F*** ON!!!, 6) Enjoy!! Remember to do a before and after photo journal.
Oh and I believe that painting the engine is not the way to go. No matter what style you are building it into it seems to cheapen it to me. (Lets NOT start an argument thread its just my honest opinion):blush:

I found quite a simple solution to clean it up. I got some rope that fits snuggly between the fins but not too tight, a heavier clothes line works good. Spray it with carb cleaner, put it into the cracks between the fins, go to the other side and see saw it back and forth a few times then move down to the next fin. When one side is done just move over to the other side. When done use a cleaner dampened rag and do the edges. It seems to do a pretty good job and doesn't take long.

I use a flat stick (about 3/4" x 1/8") with some paper towel and metal polish. It takes a while, and more than 1 beer, but eventually it pays off.
