Is a 1981 kz1100 tank the same as a 1979 kz1000 tank? My friend is gonna buy a tank and needs to know if they are the same?

The quick answer is no. The 1979 KZ1000 tanks came as LTD (B model), standard (A model), Police (C model), and shaft (E model) and only the A & B tanks were easily interchangeable. However, in 1981, the KZ1100 tanks were the shaft (A model) and the GPz (B model). Tanks mounts on the frame in 1981 were different than 1979 and most importantly, the 1981 had mechanical fuel meters internally and a fuel tap = two openings on the bottom of the tank...the 1979 had a single opening for the fuel tap.
