I am obviously a new member and have never participated in a blog before, so if I seem a little slow off the start give me a bit I will get the hang of it. I guess I should tell you about Red. She is a very pretty 1976 KZ400S2 with 4123.6 miles. She has spent the last 12yrs in a barn waiting for me to get the time to figure out what was wrong with her. Well she is running now and is in the process of being repainted. I will post pics when I can but I don't think they will be nearly as good as some I have seen on here. I am looking foward to learning from all of yall!! :)

I have one question though? I have read all the threds and no one has ever asked my question so here it goes. Since my bike has set for so long I am looking for any thing out of the norm. Is it normal for the kick start to disengage when the clutch is deactivated on the KZ400.

Welcome to the party.

If you mean the kick starts disengages or slips when pull the clutch lever in, then yes that is normal.
You don't want to do that when your kicking it over.

BTW, put your bike make/model and your and you location in your sig line. It will make it easier for everyone to help you out.

Now lets see some pics of that 400!

Welcome aboard!

Sometime when you get a chance to look at a diagram of the transmission, you'll see why the clutch has to be engaged for the kick starter to work. Conversly, the electric start requires the clutch to be released (lever pulled in) by means of a switch in the starter relay circuit.

Have fun!
