Just dropping in to say hi. My name is Craig, kinda new to riding but i hope to be on the road soon. I picked up a 79 kz1000 shaft drive with 29mm smooth bores for almost nothing, but she needs a title/registration. I left a message with ITS but to no avail.
Can anyone recommend a registration service?
Thanks,
Craig

She runs well for poor maintenance. cyl. 4 has some barely visible smoke at operating temp and #1 will cough back through the carb every 15 seconds but nothing terrible. Its growing on me but if i cant get a registration she gets parted out. The last owner had really nice paint done on the fenders tank and covers but any other paint or chrome is now crap.

Nates vintage bike axiom: Riding is the reward for time spent wrenching.
Murphys corollary: Wrenching is the result of time spent riding.

Welcome, Craig.
Too bad on the title and I'm no help, sorry. Hopefully you'll get it figured out.

Jerseybomber, welcome from south jersey, Long Beach Island. Nice bike, hate the back fender tho..
No title? You can go to motor vehicle and tell them you have a bike without a title. First, notice the look on the persons face when you tell them that. Youll notice the pure look of "good luck with that buddy". Then they'll hand you a packet that looks like your applying for a job at area 51. Next, 63 hoops will come out of that packet. Start jumping.
In all seriousness, they will tell you its at LEAST a 6 month process, and no guarantees. The title agencies your looking for, I believe, dont shoot me, but there only good for a vehicle made before 74'.
Your BEST bet IMO is find a frame with a title, maybe someone here can help you out with that.
Jersey's not fun for this stuff, tried that with a nighthawk that i got without a title.

I try not to think of Jersey as a royal pain, but instead a daily lesson in survival and cunning. If she was chain driven id be all over a frame swap, but it seems the shafty is unique, so im a little stuck.
