Hello all!

Just picked me up a 1982 Kawasaki KZ1000J2 model in black from the original owner. 14000 miles and in excellent condition.
The only thing not stock are the air filters (cone type K&N's), jetting, exhaust(has a Kerker 4 into 1 w/the baffle one up from the comp. series) and he added a 1/4 Tracy fairing, all stock parts included with the sale. Bike has the second set of brakes factory rotors and the second set of tires.
Now aside from the tires and a good thorough cleaning of the carbs how do I go about tuning this bike up could someone point me in the right direction?
This riding season will be so much fun!

Let’s see. Oil Change and filter, lube cables and chain, new gas filter & line if needed, check brakes, check all bolts. Take a look at the plugs and replace if necessary, get thyself a manual, good helmet and shoes(boots), should be elec ignition so no points to worry about, make sure all lights work. They go find a good (or bad ) woman to hold the back end down and to lean back on to. The sunset awaits! GLuck!

It should have also come with a shop manual...if not, buy one from eBay (genuine Kawasaki shop manual only) as they are very reasonably priced, used. Once you have the genuine kawasaki shop manual...you can do much of the wrenching yourself (the manuals are excellent). If the bike has been sitting awhile, clean the carbs, change the oil and oil filter, change the fuel and fuel filter, adjust the drive chain, and check valve clearances. If the bike was well maintained by the PO, you should be set And inquiring minds want to:
1) see the bike
2) know how much you paid...

Hey now, hold on the guy gave me a Kawasaki motorcycle service manual 81 through 83 KZ1000-1100 part no. 99924-1026-03, S/M KZ1000J/K/M/R.
Is this the manual you are referring to, is this all I need?

Mcdroid, looks like the same manual you show aside from the part # mine is *****-****-03 and has a black with red stripes and 1000 on the tail panel KZ1000 on the front facing left.
It also says third edition (13): Jan.18, 1990(M) on the 2nd page lower right.
Most likely same book just different editions?

Hey, thanks guys for the replies. I'm gonna go buy some oil, plugs, filters etc.. and see where shes at and all. The bike was stored in a climate controlled site with some collector cars, the wires, lines and such all look good.
I'm eager to clean/shine her up and go for a ride.
And I'll post some pics this weekend.
