new owner of a 78 kz1000 was created by mrteak
hi my name is teak and i was just given a 78 kz1000 that was sitting in my dads garage for 9 yrs. the owner told me he was done riding and if i wanted the bike i could have it and handed my the title and keys, just my lucky day..owner told me it needs a rear sprocket and some work, but the bike ran when he last used it, i removed the carbs as i was told be the first thing to check and found the 2 were rusted and tarnished, so i plan on sending them out for rebuild, the bike looks in great shape cosmetically and everything is there which is important, i know nothing about bikes but will learn quickly..will post pics soon even though i removed the tank, side panels and rear panels so i can start the clean up, lite surface rust on pipes and fenders which was removed easily to a shine, any suggestions will be really appreciated, thanks....

As was stated, change the oil, put on the carbs and fire it up. Also make sure the tank is cleaned out and you have an in line fuel filter. It should fire right up. As for the rear sprocket, you have to change both sprockets and the chain to do it right. z1enterprises.com has everything you need. BTW, where are you located. More than likely there is someone close by who would love to help start a kz that has sat for 9 years.
