New KZ rider with a question was created by ratricer
Hey All I just bought my first KZ second bike but first KAwasaki. I picked up a good condition well running 1978 KZ650 for a cool grand here in michigan. Can anyone tell me what the stock sprocket count is front and rear. I was interested in a little more low end and was thinking of kicking up the rear sprocket a few teeth but can't do that if I don't know the stock numbers. any other info I can learn is helpful. On a tight buget but working as I go.

Asking advice from a bunch of judgemental Aholes seems like the epitome of poor judgement.

Front Sprocket 16 tooth
Rear Sprocket 42 tooth
This may vary depending on your model.
For every tooth you add or delete up front it's like adding or deleting 4 on the back, if I remember correctly.

Welcome to KZR. 16 front 42 rear is correct for the C. It would be easier to go to a 15 front and if you don't care about top speed I think a 14 will fit. Good luck and by the smiley face I think Ed is kidding.

Thanks Mark, I was kidding, but I couldn't answer his question until he gave the model. The '78 KZ650D1 and C1 take different rear sprockets. I wonder if there is some way to include the year/model in the signature line as part of the registration process? Ed
