Hello
Revised New Member posting
My name is Ed Spangler, I hail from Beautifull East Tennessee, . Have been riding since 1973.
Have owned numerous bikes, Hondas,Harleys and mostly Kawasaki 900 and 1000 standard and LTD models.
Things are so much better now for owners of Vintage Japanese motorcycles because of the internet and suppliers.
my current project, a 1975 Kawasaki Z1 900, formerly owned by an old service friend , his widow called and asked if I would like to have it, I said yes not knowing the magnitude of the project, however I am enjoying fixing it up with the help of my cousin who is an outstanding motorcycle technician.we found it in really bad shape, at any rate I gave my word to his widow it would be restored and ridden it to honor my service friends memory. I look forward to learning from the other members as I work on this restoration. , the bike was not ridden since 1994 and sat outside, My cousin who owns a 1976 KZ 900 and I are working on this together, obviously we have had to obtain many, many new parts.Have already made one friend on the web-site and his help, advice and knowledge has been greatly appreciated and enabled me the somewhat computer challenged person to search for parts and source technical info.
Warmest Regards
Ed Spangler

Ed, Welcome... You'll be looking for a "seat lock", It comes as an assy, & is discontinued from Ma Kaw, fortunatly, they show up on E-bay periodialy & were common to some models of the 550/650/900 & thou. While most had a key # stamped on face, & it is possible to locate keys/have them cut from code, I'd hold out for one working/w/key... fair market is @ $20.00 luck G

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHere's a pretty horrible example of the catch part that goes on the frame. Not included is the part that attaches to the seat pan which goes into the catch (see part #6 in following post).
Good Fortune!

Thanks!!
I actually bought a 3 lock set and the lock and key I have.
Looking at the diiagram its hard to see the cylinder, the top part of mine is there just the "Guts" that go in the barrel are missing.
Wonder if this one would work if I just used the internals, Thoughts?
Thanks Again
ED

welcome.....they turn up on e-bay....i have a sat outside z-1 frame and my seat lock assembly is rusted in place...i've not fiddled with it to see if i can free it yet...but it does catch my attention when i see a complete assembly with key on e-bay while surfing...if you can find one for around 20 as Gane said...i believe you'd be smart to buy it...i see good examples going upwards of 50 ...but this is just the few items i've watched auction out...others i'm sure are around and will pop up on there too......
welcome...some pics would be great......
i plan to ride as long as i'm able ,,66 is young
regards Craig

Welcome Ed! My pops-in-law will be 67 in July and still rides like he stole it!
He, along with the hubby recently helped me gain my confidence on my first street ride!
