Hi - Bought a 78 KZ650 about a month ago. Haven't ridden it much, but the bike is in good shape cosmetically (garaged) and also mechanically, although it sounds clunky when cold and takes forever to warm up...need to check the carbs, but having too much fun riding. Anyway, thanks in advance for all your advice and recommendations. I hope to be able to someday contribute to this body of knowledge that keeps our bikes on the road. Best, Eric

Welcome aboard! Don't let the slow warmup bother you; many, if not most, KZ650's take a few minutes to warm up. Mine has been that way since it was new. Ed

Welcome.
The old air cooled ladies take a good 2 minutes or so to get to a pull-away capable state, then whilst riding, it takes some 5+mins to attain smooth idle.
I would just throw a can of SeaFoam carb cleaner in the gas tank, fillerup and ride.
+ the regular maintenence stuff...
