Hey all, I am contemplating buying a 78 KZ1000. I don't have any pictures of it unfortunately but it has sat in a shed for the past year collecting dust. The previous owner had pulled the carbs off to clean them and put rags in the motor to keep debris out. So I can't start it up but everything looks to be good. What are some common issues to keep an eye out for? and about what would you consider something like this to be worth? THANKS A BUNCH

1. get a shop manual...the KHI shop manual...let me be clear...get the shop manual.
2. assess the jetting in the carbs while you have them apart to match how the bike is set up...does it have aftermarket headers or stock exhaust?...is the airbox still present?
3. clean your carbs, clean them again...make sure the jetting matches the above configuration.
4. check your camshaft shims, swap as necessary
5. consider replacing your spark plug caps
6. fresh spark plugs
7. fresh oil and filter
8. lube all your cables
9. replace your brake fluid, as necessary
10. replace brake pads, as necessary
11. replace tires, as necessary
12. lube the chain
13. if necessary, consider replacing the drive chain and both sprockets
14. have fun doing all the above
AND TO ANSWER your question...a non-running KZ1000A/B model is worth considerably less than a running KZ1000...the current owner knows this and why he didn't reassemble the bike for you is odd, at the least. Difficult to assess value w/out pictures.
