I just picked up a 1973 Z1 900 (former dragbike) from a friend. It has matching engine and frame #'s and the motor (at least as the story goes) escaped the drag racing history of the bike. The p/o used a KZ1000 motor when racing and made no frame or "permanent" other mods. He put the original 903cc back in shortly before selling to my friend and it is said to have less than 5k original. The bike has an extended, boxed swingarm and struts instead of shocks and has been painted non-original colors. It has an LTD seat and a 16" rim laced to the original hub in the rear. All-in-all, not a show piece and not factory looking, but very cool dragbike throwback. I need to install the front end and wheels and finish wiring and it's ready to go. I STOLE this thing for $1000. :woohoo:

SWEET score! That's a bike that should be put back to all original if you can. Did you get the 4:4 exhaust with it too by any chance?

Heck yeah, you stole it. Let's see the pictures when you get time. So what are your plans for the bike? Rider or original resto. Done correctly those 73's are worth some serious coin.

[file] It is going to be a rider. I wan't to eventually find one with more original bits than mine and restore to factory original. While mine does have matching original frame and engine, the seat, front end, swing arm, and wheels, etc are not original. I'd have to source too many parts to make it worthwhile. The parts that are on it are done very nicely and have been restored to very nice condition or replaced. The frame is powdered a screaming green metallic, similar to that available on new Camaros. The tins are all gloss black, professionally painted by a DuPont sales rep (who was a professional body guy for 25 yrs). As of now, motor is in frame and wiring is ran. It was together and running, then by buddy stripped it and painted the frame and motor cases, block, etc. I just need to finish reassembly. Since it is already "custom" I'm wanting to swap to alloy rims from another KZ model. I'd prefer a 19" front (single disk) and 16" rear (drum). Any suggestions for any easy swap?
