I just started riding and my first bike happened to be a clean 82 kz750 LTD. For the age, the ol girls in great shape. Even sporting hard saddle bags and V&H 4-1 exhaust pipes...not bad for $1000

The only change Id like to make is adding either a set of forward controls or highway pegs... or both. Any advice on how to do this without sacrificing the crash bars would be helpful

Nice 750 you've found yourself there.
Here's a set of forward controls on ebay, might give you an idea if you need to remove the crash bars.

Yeah, boostable, this is my very first bike. Paid cash for it and I think I made a good purchase. Just waiting on the title transfer so I can get her insured, registered and on the highway.

That's fantastic, and congrats again.. The KZ has a lot of history, and I would think its safe to bet that anyone who has ridden in the last 30yrs has spent time on a KZ in one way or another.
I don't know what your riding experience is, but my advice would be (not that you ask) that its just as important to know your limitations on the bike, as it is to know the bikes limitations itself!
Have fun, enjoy it, and keep the shinny side up!
OOO and welcome to the club..

The only thing thats buggin my is the foot controls. For short rides around the neighborhood, its fine, but after about 10 minutes, my knees start to hurt from being bent. So forward controls are definitely in the future.

Welcome aboard! I'm not too familiar with the 750 frames but I'd bet that a seat from a non LTD would allow you to slide back a bit more and accomplish the same thing as forward controls.
